YRC Freight Top Drivers Jeff Rose and Dave Murphy Are Top Finalists at 2017 National Truck Driving Championships
OVERLAND PARK, Kansas – September 22, 2017 – YRC Freight is proud to announce drivers Jeff Rose and Dave Murphy are top three finalists in their divisions at the 2017 National Truck Driving Championships (NTDC) in Orlando, Florida. They competed against the nation’s most elite professional drivers in a variety of challenges and competitions.
Drivers must first take top honors in their division in their respective state competitions, maintain continuous employment with a motor carrier fleet for a period of at least one year, and remain accident-free, regardless of fault, for one year prior to NTDC to qualify. Nationals consist of a driver skills challenge, pre-trip inspection, and a written exam on laws, regulations and vehicle maintenance. Winners are determined by overall scores at the close of competition.
“We are proud of the safety skills and accomplishments of our professional drivers. We are especially proud of Jeff Rose (Akron, Ohio) who placed second in the nation in Twins and of Dave Murphy (Boise, Idaho) who placed third in the nation in 3-Axle at the 2017 National Truck Driving Championships,” said Darren Hawkins, president of YRC Freight. “Both drivers are outstanding YRC Freight safety ambassadors to the motoring public concerning commercial vehicle safety and sharing the road.”

Since then Dave has not failed to finish in the top three of his class at a TDC. He has earned thirteen first place awards at the Idaho TDC, not including four Grand Champion awards at the Idaho State Truck Driving Championships, the Chairman’s Award, and the Lloyd Cook Professional Driver Excellence Award, presented by Trebar Kenworth. He was named Driver of the Year for the State of Idaho in 2005. Dave recently won first place in the Idaho TDC in 2011, 2015 and 2016 in the 5-Axle division. He most recently won first place in 2017 in the 3-axle division.
